Top winners draw applause at Prize2theFuture event, show ideas with great hope for future

May 5, 2011

Congratulations to our top three winning ideas in Prize2theFuture. It was great to see positive ideas for the future and such a great response from the crowd at the Alabama Theatre tonight after a week which brought destruction to so much of our community. Somehow, together, we can celebrate and respond to great needs at the same time.

First place went to One Birmingham Place: An Eight-Part Celebration of Community and Social Reengagement, submitted by Colin Coyne; second to The Stockyard, submitted by Josh Westerhold, and third to Magic City Station, a group effort by Grant Gramstad, Dave Smith and Larry Hudson.

The remaining seven ideas in the top 10 also were honored on stage at the Alabama Theatre. All will receive cash prizes in honor of their hard work and achievement.

Check the full details on our website and stay tuned for more about the next phase of Prize2theFuture.

I’m not trying to be a jerk here but the winning projects shown here are a joke. These are not design proposals that a mid size city should even publish as possible futures. There is no future projected or imagined here, only stale, recast, and bland doodles that only hurt the image of a city which has so much more potential. I wish I could applaud but alas I cannot.
