Degrees of separation: Judges share work, school ties

April 12, 2011

What do you get when you combine Harvard University, Southern Living magazine and Auburn University? These common ties of schools and work link several of our great judges in the Final Rounds of Prize2theFuture.

Tom Leader of Tom Leader Studio in Berkeley, Calif., received his Masters in Landscape Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where Philip Morris also was a Loeb Fellow. Judges Cheryl Morgan and John Floyd both have ties to Auburn University, where Morgan received two degrees, a B.A. in sociology and a Bachelor of Architecture. Morgan currently heads the Auburn University Design Studio located in Birmingham, Alabama. John Floyd, retired vice president and editor-in-chief of Southern Living, received his B.A. in ornamental horticulture at Auburn.

To bring us full circle, Floyd shares a Southern Living connection with Philip Morris, who served as editor-at-large for Southern Progress Corp. and before that as executive editor for Southern Living.

Check out all the Final Rounds judges on the Prize2theFuture website. Join us May 5 for the announcement of the final winner.
