Prize2theFuture wins worldwide contestants

March 23, 2011

Just in case you have missed some of the recent excitement about Prize2theFuture, entries submitted by the March 11 deadline represented 38 counties (plus the U.S.). With contestants coming from as far away as Italy, Ireland and Albania, we believe the great story of Birmingham’s city center is spreading too.

Many thanks to everyone who entered (see the op-ed piece by our Board Chair, Bill Smith) and to the judges who are working right now to sort through almost 1,000 official entries that are moving forward in the first round.

Mark your calendar now for May 5, when we will gather at the Alabama Theatre to announce the top winner of the $50,000 prize.

Are there to be no postings on the cuts – i.e. the first 50? It would be interesting to see.

We are figuring out how much to say and when. Definitely look for news on 10 finalists after April 26.

Why should you be required to “say” anything other than to post a list of the names of the entries/submitters who made the cut for the top 50? If 1100+ people cared enough to comply with your criteria and to meet your initial deadline, shouldn’t you also honor the other dates you published?

We are definitely going to communicate with the contestants directly, as promised. Just not sure about what to communicate more broadly, as we try to keep the judging process as “blind” as possible through final round. And we hope all the contestants will join us on May 5.
