Community health highlighted on two March Saturdays

March 9, 2011

Despite a rainy Saturday, the partners in Healthy Kids Healthy Communities had a great time with 5K for Kids: Small Steps to End Childhood Obesity at Legion Field. According to Amanda Storey, who provided an update for HKHC, the children at the event made countless smoothies on the bike blender — you peddle, you get to eat the smoothie you make with your hard work (and bananas and orange juice from Whole Foods Market).

Her favorite part was the fact that the kids dropped off their leftover banana peels in the compost pile provided by West End Community Gardens.

If you missed this event, you have another chance on March 19 to spend a part of your Saturday supporting community health, this time through the work of WE Community Gardens. Check out what Amanda has to say on her blog about the great fun and good cause.
