Women’s Fund graduates to even greater success

December 21, 2010

We are proud to launch another great organization into an independent existence, in this case, the wonderful Women’s Fund of Greater Birmingham. Started in 1996 as the vision of a single donor, this component grantmaking fund achieved many great results in its first 15 years.

The Women’s Fund won national recognition for Cut It Out, a program that used education and outreach to hairdressers as a way to support victims of domestic violence. Powered by great donors, volunteers and staff, including an innovative board, The Women’s Fund went on to tackle systemic change on the issue of domestic violence and won the Critical Impact Award from the Council on Foundations for that effort.

As The Women’s Fund becomes a separate nonprofit organization, the strong ties with the Community Foundation will continue. After all, they are working on important issues for a key part of our community, our women and girls. We also will manage the endowment for The Women’s Fund, providing stewardship and investment services that allow the new group to focus on improving the status of women and girls by serving as a catalyst for positive social change.

Stay tuned to these great efforts as we welcome one more great organization to our roster of partners.
