Railroad Park welcomes all to downtown’s living room

September 14, 2010

The fences are down and the welcome mat is out at our long-awaited Railroad Park, 19 acres in the heart of downtown Birmingham. If you haven’t wandered down First Avenue South lately, you are in for a real treat when you see what has been created on these four blocks between 14th and 18th Streets.

Want to grab a sandwich and enjoy the unique view of Birmingham’s skyline? Or blow off steam with a little friendly Frisbee competition? Or get in a power walk on the Rail Trail? You can do all that at Railroad Park, a true “living room” for downtown workers, residents and visitors.

Your Community Foundation is proud to have been a part of seeding the Three Parks Initiative that supported the completion of Railroad Park, the opening of a new education building at Ruffner Mountain Nature Center and great work at what one day be the new Red Mountain Park. We’re especially proud of our community, and that includes you, because you are the ones who said you wanted parks and open space to make our community an even better place to live.

So come on down, enjoy the fun on Saturday, September 18, complete with free Frisbees and an evening showing of the movie, “Up.” Click here for complete details of the park opening, which we are featuring this week as yet another great thing about this place we call home.
