No reason to stop counting, so welcome next 50

June 1, 2010

Ruffner Mountain Nature Center makes a great new No. 1 for our next 50 series. After all, this is the first step in a three-part expansion of our community’s parks and green space, thanks to your Community Foundation’s leadership in the Three Parks Initiative.

Visitors have been enjoying Ruffner Mountain for more than 30 years as a place to explore nature. Now, with a new Treetop Visitor Center, new executive director and even a new parking area, Ruffner Mountain has even more to offer on its 1,011 acres.

Introduce your kids or yourself to native plants and animals with one of many special programs this summer. Or study the latest in green building techniques, from rooftop garden to cistern, at the L.E.E.D.-certified building at the edge of the woods. Or find out more in the full story that starts our Next 50 series or on the Ruffner Mountain website.

Stay tuned for the next step in the initiative, as Railroad Park opens later this summer and Red Mountain Park continues its weekend hikes this fall.
