Kresge grants through Cultural Alliance support arts in solving community issues

May 26, 2010

Thanks to the Kresge Foundation and the Cultural Alliance of Greater Birmingham, nine area organizations have a chance to lead Birmingham forward in solving community issues. A total of almost $80,000 in Kresge grants were awarded last week to innovative projects aimed at uniting communities and addressing social issues through the arts.

Did you ever see storytelling as a way to revitalize an East Birmingham neighborhood? Or what about theatre arts as a method for high school dropouts to develop workplace skills? That’s what we hope to see as the winning projects take shape over the next 12 months.

Thanks to the Cultural Alliance for making this grant process work so effectively and to the community volunteers and experts who assisted in the judging. And we’re not done yet, with applications for the next round of grants available on line in December 2010.

For now, you can click here to see a full list of grantees and their projects. Or contact the Cultural Alliance to find out more.
