No more excuses for not riding your bike to work on May 21

So you’ve been thinking you might try riding your bicycle to work one day. Your chance is coming up on Friday, May 21, with the Birmingham Bike-to-Work Day 2010 Ride, starting at 7 a.m. at the fountain in Five Points South. You can get details at. This is part of a national event, promoted by the League of American Bicyclists, during May, which is National Bike Month.

If you don’t want to join the 5 1/2-mile ride through Birmingham’s City Center, you can still enjoy gathering with other cyclists at Regions Center Plaza (20th Street and Fifth Avenue North downtown) for the second annual Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast hosted by the Green Resource Center for Alabama. You’ll find coffee, food and music available until 9:45 am. Details and ticket information is available on the Green Resource Center website under Events.

The Birmingham Bike-to-Work Day ride is sponsored by the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham, Birmingham Metropolitan Planning Organization and CommuteSmart Birmingham, with support from the Birmingham Police Department, City Action Partnership, Operation New Birmingham, Regions Bank, Green Resource Center for Alabama, Birmingham Bicycle Club, Bici Coop, Vulcan Tri-athletes, Alabama Bicycle Coalition, Alabama Partners for Clean Air, Jefferson County Department of Health, YMCA Birmingham, your Community Foundation, United Way of Central Alabama, University of Alabama at Birmingham and area bike shops.
