Community Funds invest $764,000 for results our community wants

May 18, 2010

Making the decisions about where to invest $764,000 in grants this spring required, as always, plenty of homework on the part of grant specialists and members of the Grant Review and Evaluation Committee. After all, these grants come from Community Funds set up by donors who trusted the Community Foundation to make sure their gifts were always used wisely and for the greatest impact. They choose this way to love their community now and forever, so we choose the announcement of our latest grants as Way #2 to Love Your Community.

Last week, our Board of Directors approved grants to 77 nonprofit organizations, serving priorities that range from preventing of child abuse to teacher training and implementation of the Cultural Master Plan. All these priorities came from you, the people in our community, who continue to tell us what kind of place you want to leave for your children and grandchildren.

In addition to grants for new programs, almost one-quarter of the total ($167,000) will be used to support operations as our nonprofit sector continues to trail in the economic recovery. You can click here to find out more about how you can help and see how the grant totals are divided across interest areas. Or you can contact Kathryn Corey or James McCrary to see how you can help.
