Celebrate spring with April 18 hike at Red Mountain Park

April 14, 2010

A rainstorm, complete with lightning and thunder, canceled the March hike at Red Mountain Park, but you still have one more chance this spring to enjoy one of the monthly public hikes, courtesy of park staff and volunteers. You can choose options that range from easy to strenuous and last from one hour to 2 1/2 hours and give you the chance to explore different parts of the park, which will not officially open for two years.

All hikes start at 2 p.m on Sunday, April 18, from the cul-de-sac on Frankfurt Drive. Sign-in takes a few minutes, so please arrive by 1:45 p.m. Send your RSVP so planners can know what to expect, because this could be a record-breaking day if the weather is nice!

If you want an indoor activity related to the park, make plans to view Red Mountain Rising, an exhibit of photographs, artifacts and before/after photos about the past, present and future of Red Mountain Park. The exhibit is open Wednesday through Saturday through April 24 at the Lite Box Gallery at Pepper Place.
