Green theme shows off potential of Railroad Park

April 7, 2010

Railroad Park continues to draw crowds as this 18-acre urban park nears its completion this summer. Hundreds were on hand for the Birmingham Business Alliance Green Event last night, which included great views of progress on key elements of the park, from trees to trails to the outlines of lakes and amphitheatre. Green organizations and the new green issue of Birmingham Magazine were part of the appeal, along with the chance to take golf cart tours inside the construction area.

It’s exciting to see what has been accomplished with the support of business and foundations, led by Region 2020 (now part of BBA) and the Community Foundation, as well as passionate volunteers and donors who have been supporters of the vision for Railroad Park since the beginning. We will all have something to celebrate when the virtual doors open in just a few months.

And stay tuned for progress on the Three Parks Initiative, including Ruffner Mountain Nature Center, with its LEED-certified visitors center, and Red Mountain Park, with another Sunday afternoon hike coming up on April 18.
