Yes We Can! have new foundation for Bham schools

November 2, 2009

Just over a year ago, the parents, teachers and community leaders of Birmingham spoke, and Yes We Can! Birmingham listened. The result was a Community Agreement, summarizing all the things the people of Birmingham want for their children and their public school system. Thanks to Yes We Can! Birmingham, a grassroots initiative of the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, people were able to lift up their voices and be heard, creating a Community Agreement that has become part of the Birmingham Board of Education strategic plan.

The Community Agreement also is the guiding principle for the Birmingham Education Foundation, which on November 3 will announce the next stage for Yes We Can! Birmingham and plans for the work of this new nonprofit.

Join the BEF board and volunteers for the official community update on Yes We Can! Birmingham and the next steps for BEF on Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the main branch of the Birmingham Public Library downtown in the Arrington Auditorium on the third floor of the Linn-Henley Research Library. The announcement and grant presentation will be at approximately 6 p.m.

Even if you were not part of the original initiative, now is your time to come and find out what will happen next, as we work together to make the Birmingham public school system the best it can be — for all our children and for our whole community.
