World-class Lion, Witch make magic for area kids

October 6, 2009

The only thing small about Birmingham Children’s Theatre is the age of most of the people in the audience. With a cast and crew of experienced professionals, BCT produces local and touring shows that touch 165,000 youngsters each year across our region.

You can hear the laughs, the screams of excitement and plenty of clapping. These kids may not realize they are watching one of the oldest and largest children’s theatres in the country in action. And they may not care that, because BCT employs so many great talents behind and in front of the curtain, our community benefits from amazing creative talents all year long.

But we know and we are excited about the latest creation from the design and technical crews behind the scenes, as well as the actors out front. The results are on the Main Stage right now, with a public performance of C.S. Lewis’ classic tale, “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe,” on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m. For pre-schoolers, there’s also a public showing of “The Little Red Hen” in the Wee Folks Theatre the same day.

Find out more on the BCT website or check out one of our 50 Ways to Love the Community, which takes a look at some of the experienced professionals who make this new show possible. If you’re big enough to read this blog, you may not think that a “children’s” theatre is for you, but at least now you know that this is a world-class asset for our community.
