National conference helps community foundations share

October 1, 2009

Next week, community foundations from across the U.S. will gather for a conference sponsored by the Council on Foundations. It’s a chance to talk about the issues so critical to every community and to learn from the successes — and failures — of others in the field.

The conference theme is “Philanthropy’s Role in Creating Transformative Change,” one that really reasonates with us in the greater Birmingham area. In this, our 50th anniversary year, we have been gathering new resources to transform our community, thanks to our aptly named Community Catalyst Funds.

Community Foundation President Kate Nielsen and incoming Board Chair Bill Smith will share the story of our success, since caring donors have pledged $10 million so far to support for the next big thing this community needs. They will also listen for creative solutions to the challenges we all face in the current economy.

We look forward to hearing more from our impressive field of community foundations, all committed to making life better forever in their own home towns, just as your Community Foundation is right here.
