Grant deadline tomorrow for Community Foundation

September 14, 2009

We’re looking for great new ideas and new ways to help our nonprofit partners, thanks to the second round of Community Fund grants from the Community Foundation in 2009.

Last spring, we awarded $734,200 to 73 nonprofit organizations from Community Funds, the flexible grantmaking funds dedicated to supporting the most pressing needs and taking advantage of opportunities to make life better in greater Birmingham.

For the first time, in response to the economic challenges faced by our community and the nonprofit organizations serving its citizens, these grants included $184,700 to support general operations for 19 agencies, including $25,000 each to Kid One Transport and Pathways and $15,000 to Safehouse of Shelby County. What grants will be made this fall for similar needs — to help great organizations like these continue to serve increasing needs?

What grants will support new or expanded services and help our community take advantage of new opportunities? We’re waiting and watching for the grant packages to come in and the process to begin. Thank you to all our partners — the nonprofit organizations that do great work and the donors, past and present, whose gifts allow us to make strategic investments in our shared future.

Watch for news of the grant decisions in May or contact Kathryn Corey to invest with us in this next grant cycle.
