Women’s Fund domestic violence work wins national award

August 13, 2009

The Council on Foundations has chosen The Women’s Fund of Greater Birmingham, a component of the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, as one of two national winners of Critical Impact Awards in 2009. The award recognizes the work of Voices Against Violence, a giving circle within The Women’s Fund, and the impact of their grants in reducing the incidence of domestic violence assaults in our community.

Virginia Sweet, director of The Women’s Fund, takes pride in this national recognition of important work, supported primarily by women and focusing on the needs of women and girls. You can call her at 205-327-3821 or contact her by e-mail to find out more.

We look forward to the official presentation of the award during the Council on Foundations’ Fall Conference for Community Foundatios in San Antonio, Texas. In the meantime, we continue to look for great results from the initiatives of The Women’s Fund focusing on domestic violence, financial security and other important issues that disproportionately affect women.

Congratulations and well-deserved – on behalf of your friends and partners in the fight to end domestic violence from Laurel House, a domestic violence agency in PA.
